Speed lever pops out

Postby ShawnAgne » Wed Oct 18, 2017 7:42 pm

When I have the speed lever pushed forward it likes to pop out. Do I need to loosen/Tighten the screw that holds it in place?

Probably the teeth on the throttle quadrant and the beveled edge on the throttle lever that engage the teeth are worn. These can be cleaned up with an angled file if not too bad. Otherwise replace (or rebuild, check out chipmaker’s epic rebuild thread).

Also, on mine, the spring holding the pretension on the throttle lever was rusty and the pin mostly worn through. Replacing the pin and putting some PB Blaster on the spring and washer helped some.

There could be a couple of reasons for the throttle lever to slip back to a lower speed.
- The "teeth" on the plate are worn out
- The lever has a groove worn in it where it engages the plate teeth
- The lever is bent/twisted
- All the above

If you are handy with a welder, you can fix all three problems along with a vise and hammer. The bolt applies tension to the spring to keep the lever forced up against the teeth. It could be loose, but if the lever is being forced up against the plate, it should be good.

Hi,
TM Tractor has new throttle parts, if you need them, except it says they are out of the lever, when I wrote this post.
There are pics at the lever showing how the place that engages the notches originally looked.

Below is a pic of a new sector, showing how the notches originally were. :)
