New Cub Carburetor

Postby kaleb58loboy » Thu Oct 26, 2017 9:55 am

New Cub Carburetor $85.00 free ship.
Saw this carb on a well known auction site,I'm guessing the said carb is
offshore made and you get what you pay for,but the price looks good.
My IH carb is warped badly (read repair on this site)and have no means of repairing
it without fear of breaking something.
Used original carbs are big bucks and even then if purchased on line it may be warped
worst than the one I have.
So,right now the offshore price looks pretty good.
Advice is welcome.
Believe none of what you hear
Half of what you read
All of what you see.

Had a chance to thoroughly examine one of the "recent" repro carbs at Cubfest Northeast. Your statement that "you get what you pay for" is absolutely correct. The carbs are not made in the USA, probably China. The fit and finish is no where near the originals or the early repros sold by TM and Steiner. The availability and compatibility of parts is currently an unknown. Until these units develop a history of working out of the box and in the long term, I would avoid them. Several folks on the forum offer services to do repairs on original IH carburetors. I suggest contacting one of them.

Thanks for the feedback on this Don. I recently read on Facebook Tractor Group where a guy had gotten one and swore by it (he said bought a few of them). Yes they should work out of the box but I wouldn't hold my breath 6 months later and expect to find good parts for them. Those will cost you more dollars and headache in the long run, and hopefully they won't hurt our source for great parts for the originals. When an original IH Carburetor is properly rebuild and cared for by the owner, it should last a minimum of 25 years. I've seen that happen plus some.
