Using Cub - 144 cultivators to dig potatoes?

Postby Our Pass Thyme » Mon Oct 30, 2017 3:14 pm

I have re-configured my Cub-144s into a potato plow, show how I did this, and how well it worked in
the link to my latest Farmall Cub video - https://youtu.be/RkFaa0Xy4os .
Yes, this may cause some controversy, I'm sure, but it is the next best thing for now and certainly
falls the category of a 'twill-do' (an Ed-ism for those of you who know Ed).
For some reason, circumstances keep getting in the way of me acquiring two implements -
1) a McCormick Deering ground engaged 1 row potato harvester with the seat still on it in operable condition and
2)the Cub-16 middle buster.
Any leads on those implements would be greatly appreciated and there would be credit in the videos I
make from using them for sure! -Tom :hattip:

I have done similar. Put one big Lister plow in the center and 2 disc hillers on each side set to barely touch the dirt. The disc hillers will roll the spuds away from the tires. Worked great for me.

It might work better if the two outside shovels are moved back. The only obvious way I see to do that is by reversing the clamps, which may be too far to work any better. Did you try running the lower tips of the shovels more forward? It looks like that would help both with penetration and lifting the potatoes out.

Until you find the implements you’re looking for, I’d be on the lookout for horse drawn middle buster. Mount it on a reverse drawbar much like the 193 plow. I had toyed with the idea of doing this but was given one that had been modified to work with fast hitch. Works good on taters :-)

Thomas - Since my initial post, I have been sent two different pictures of that sort of thing. One was close to your exact idea and the other actually looks like a factory fast hitch!
