Other than being a little beefier, I doubt you'll notice the difference.

As stated, later Cubs came with 9.5 tires. using the same 7" rims that were used with 8.3 tires. The 9.5 tires make the tractor a bit faster. There is a slight disadvantage if you are cultivating small plants in narrow rows. Most mowers are OK with the bigger tires, but check your clearance between the tire and mower deck. Likewise, you will have to watch clearance to the front cultivator tool bars. (IH recommended shortening them a bit with 9.5 tires.) Most other situations, bigger is better.

It may be worth checking out Nebraska Tire (https://www.nebraskatire.com/), as they sometimes have steeply discounted tractor tires. But once you factor in shipping, it might become a deal killer.

Simple Tire likes to play games with the shipping. Don't just go with the cheapest tire, try others. The shipping varies greatly. Sometimes you can get a better brand of tire because the shipping is way cheaper.

Will the 3160 mower work with the 9.5 tires?

Found this morning simpletire is offering the 9.5 x 24 for $164 with free shipping and 10% off all tires. Correction, the $164 is reflecting the 10% off.
Any feedback on Alliance brand tires?

https://simpletire.com/alliance-9.524-32403808-tires

Seems simpletire changes prices daily. Check every day all sizes.

That page gives me the impression that free shipping is on a "set" of 4 tires.

I had a cub with alliance tires. I liked them and had no issues. Yes, they are imports, but not China. They are made in Israel

FYI, just ordered two 9.5 x 24 off ebay from Simple tire $252.54 and free shipping. Extra 5% off today,Black Friday? Don't know for New Samson Farm Rear-agritrac R1s these are eight ply. PS: Ordered yesterday, arrived today FedEx. Ordered two tubes w/TR218 valve allowing me to ad ballast weight if I want to from ebay/doowopmike 1010 for $53.50. Though I do have rear weights it'll make it easy to add slime if I want. For the fronts: two 4 x 12 F2 w/tubes $75. free shipping from Tucker Tire in Dyersburg TN. Order came into Memphis two days later FedEx.

So I have a couple of tire questions... What was originally on the cub as far as brand? I also remember that back then tread pattern was different (and in some cases unique) any ideas where to find the original style and brand?

Not sure about tread patterns, but I believe there were several suppliers: Goodyear, Firestone, BF Goodrich?
I believe also that the original rims were stamped inside with the manufacturer, as the rims were shipped out to the tire suppliers and then shipped back with tires mounted.

I have one cub with 8.3's that have to be replace. Flat, dry rot, cracks. Because I have another Cub with 9.5s, I see it sitting level. I think the 8.3's would have the backend hunkered down. Ordered 9.5's for replacement.
