TSC and Fram filters

Postby meandmydeere » Sun Dec 03, 2017 8:20 am

The TSC stores in Mission, Texas, Weslaco, Texas and Edinburg, Texas are sold out of the C235 Fram filters for the Cub. I own them all at $.79 per filter. I'll be looking for more TSC's when I leave here and head back to Michigan on Wednesday. As a side note, anyone that will be attending the Michigan CubFest in June, I plan on having them on a table with Orings so I can pass on the savings.

I found 2 yesterday at one of 3 TSCs I went to along the way home. $.79 each. I'd say a win for me... It was really hard to keep a straight face when asking the girl at checkout why they were clearnancing them all, and her answer was: They are probably getting too old an expiring.

Thanks for the warning, Karl! I will need to check the "best if used by" date on mine!
Come to think of it, I bet there are a few things on my Cub right now that are just a little past their date...

In my case it is the driver! One of mine has a decal that reads
1948 modle cub
1948 model driver
Not all parts
Are original on either one.

The two do share a couple other things other than both being ‘48 models.
1-slow to get going in the mornings.
2-every now and then they have a strange noise coming from the rear end

I had to go to Bridgeman, Michigan to pick up a jet ski of all things. I stopped at Stevensville. Michigan and they were pretty well cleaned out of Fram filters. I then stopped in South Haven, Michigan and they had one Cub filter left and six 3976a oil filters for my Dodge ram 3500 Cummins diesel. that's enough oil filters for 75000 miles. I guess I better grab some more to last me the trucks lifetime and mine. Now if Shell Rotella would go on sale for $.39 per gallon, well I can wish can't I?

To each his own, but a cheap oil filter is the last thing I want to put on my engine. Fram is reguarded as a cheap filter ( and I mean it in more ways than one ) and I certainly would not put a fram on my dodge. only wix or fleetguard. engines are too hard to rebuild and too costly to not get only the best.

You say Fram is cheap but I only ran Fram on my 1998 Dodge Ram Cummins power for 245,000 miles. Then on my 2008 Dodge Ram Cummins power, I ran 254,000 mile.

I have not been to a TSC in a couple of months, but when I was last there the guy working in that department told me they had all all their FRAM filters on clearance and told me they would not be getting anymore. He did not know if they were going to stock another brand or just eliminating oil filters..

The TSC near us only has a hand full of filters left on the clearance rack that probably fit a '83 Vette and they have other items where the filters were so I guess they aren't getting anymore. Those that fit a Vette I mean Chevette not Corvette and they will be a hard sell.

I answered that question but I must not have hit submit. I work at Tractor Supply part time, part of the time. It seems that we only have filters for automotive. In the tractor repair section, there are a couple of filters but mainly for Ford or Ferguson. You would think we would carry ag filters. And yes, you are correct, TSC is carrying Purolator now.

Purolator is what the folks in the local stores here have been saying too. I'm not sure on the quality of a Purolator filter as I haven't used one in probably 40 years, but they're still around so that does say something. Just not sure what.
Waking up the ol' Cub

Nah, it's not leaking oil. It's just marking it's territory.
