Cylinder measurements

Bottom of the cylinders measured 2.625, top 2.635 and tapered down from there. Time for a bore job?

For sure. Should be same top to bottom. Your machine shop will be able to tell you better than anyone but I would say you need to go to at least .020" over since your tops are already .010" over.

That's what I was thinking. And I can't find .010 over pistons.

do not buy pistons until you bore it, it will probably need bigger pistons to clean it up then you think

I been told the exact opposite but honestly it seemed to make more sense to get pistons after. Good machine shop shouldnt need the pistons.

Every time I've carried and engine block or heads to a machine shop if I need any parts they can get them as cheap if not cheaper than I can. They will measure it, bore it and can probably get a kit cheaper than you can. I would price it and see for sure.

:Dito: The machine shop I use does the work, including grinding valves and turning crank and installs it all for only slightly more than it would cost me for parts.

Yep...good machine shops are able to buy from wholesalers that have FAR better prices than anybody in town....and even with nice markups...they beat just about any price you can find....although those domed pistons from hamilton bob are mighty tempting....
