Driving your cub around a tractor show
I am taking my cub to a show in August, it will be riding around on so we ain't walking everywhere all the time. More than likely my little boy will be in my lap, will be 2 by that time, and my wife will be riding on a carryall with a seat bolted to it. My carryall is made with a 2in hitch and then the receiver is bolted to the drawbar. With much over 100lbs there is good amount of flexing up and down in the drawbar. Does anyone here have something similar or better design? If anything I thought about dropping my hydraulics all the way down and use a cable and turn buckle to put just enough tension to stiffen up the drawbar and won't have constant tension the hydraulics.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
When it comes to safety being first, I can’t see how this is a good idea. These tractors should only have one person on them when operating, the driver.

Small rural town here, but for parades, my plan is to hook up the utility trailer, toss several haybales on it and have the wife, daughter and grandkids ride on the trailer.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
Not sure about the show you are attending, but some shows do not allow tractors to be driven. Usually shows restrict the rides to golf carts.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
They allow all tractors to be driven. From.david Bradley tractors pulling a home.made cart of some kind to sit on all the way to the 806 size. Big wide driveways and yet still have designated foot traffic only areas.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
Some shows that allow driving the tractors have a rule that a passenger is only allowed if they have and are in a seat. Good rule.
You plan to drive a tractor, keep an eye on a passenger on the back, watch for pedestrians (who won't always be watching for you), and hang onto a 2 year old at the same time? Multiple opportunities for a minor lapse of attention to turn into a serious accident.

One butt per tractor seat. No other riders.
Great caution required for trailer passengers. There have been cases of some one falling off.
Gotta watch for other folks on foot ,especially wee ones ,around tires too.

All it takes for you to lose everything you own is one pedestrian stumbling in front of your moving tractor.
If only Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Clagwell had gotten along...

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
I understand where everyone here is coming from. Nobody wants to see anyone get hurt, however some of my fondest memories are riding on the fender of dads John Deere A while he plowed or disked the fields. Was it the safest thing to do, no but I'm glad he did it.
Three people on a tractor probably isn't the best thing to do but you'll have to make that call. Maybe the times all three want to ride you can modify a small single axle trailer to safety haul your wife and son. If you want to just take your son I don't see an issue having him in your lap at the speeds you'll be going at a tractor show. Whatever you choose to do, just be careful and have fun.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
Me and him ride the cub ALOT. Him in my lap. BUT if I'm working it, he does not ride. Before I ever give him his first ride me and a friend was talking and he asked me if I ever been working a tractor and my hat fell off and if I could stop before running over it. I told him usually it gets ran over. He then said why would a kid be any different. Therefore we only ride together on smooth ground and I'm not working it. I refuse to do that. At a show I will be surprised if I get into 2nd gear

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
I converted a couple of machine crates into carry all boxes and you got me thinking that I could put a bench in the big one 5' wide/4' deep (facing backwards). Thanks. I will say that the 3 point hitch does not flex.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
I wasn't going to post any more to this thread, as I thought all relevant points had been made. But I an now compelled to make one more observation.
Driving around a tractor show with an irregular (and changing) surface, with people around on all sides, and multiple distractions is a lot more like working a tractor than it is like idling around on smooth ground in an open space.

Re: Driving your cub around a tractor show
I read this and thought WHY did you even ask on here. Sounds to me like you already have your mind made up.
Yea I know a lot of us did it when we were small, but how many are not here because it did not work okay.
All I can say is , your tractor, your kid, your life. but why chance it?
