I finally did the valve adjustment. Interesting thing was that the valves almost all appeared to be totally wrong, there was almost no gap on any of them now there all at .015. Now (For the ‘53) I did the 1st TDC , valves 1,2,3,5 and then did 4th TDC and the remaining valves as the service manual says.
The tractor appears to run a little smoother now, it actually seemed to take a minute for the engine to figure out what was going on, (must have been 20 years since last valve adjustment)but for how messed up the valves appeared it didn’t seem to change the smoky exhaust-
I did attempt to use the timing light, i have a Innova 3551 model inductive timing light. I will try again soon. I understand you just use the light as a timing method and adjust the distributor to get the marks on spot.. next project is to get the timing perfect.
