The battle line (pic)

Postby Super A » Sat Feb 24, 2018 11:12 pm

I couldn't help myself and brought home a pack of cabbage plants, so I had to get the garden started. I decided it would be fun to post a family pic.

On the left is my 1947 Super A (#52 off the line) making the row with a set of buzzard wings. In the center is my 1950 Super A with fast hitch IH #120 disk. On the right is my '49 Cub pulling the 193 plow.

Awesome pics!

Oh, how I wish I lived somewhere with soil like that and warm enough that the ground was dry by the end of February. If I showed you a picture of 3 tractors in my back yard right now, they'd all be up to their bellies in water and mud!!!

Yeah I’m jealous. I won’t get plowing till usually around the 3rd week of March to mid April depending on year. Three years ago, we had a crazy winter and I couldn’t plow until last day of April. Thinking so far this year we should be on the earlier side of things.
Beautiful line up of red power and nice looking soil. Only a farmer at heart can understand the good feeling that comes with the smell of dirt on a nice spring day.

I changed tranny fluid last weekend in both Cubs and the oil & filter in the '47 this afternoon. Am getting anxious to disc the garden spot in a few weeks. Sure felt like Spring today, but the ground is completely saturated; 1.5" of rain yesterday. Soon, though...

Your garden spot looks good. Thanks for sharing the pics of your fleet. :)

That disk pulls way harder in plowed ground than the plow....the soil is pretty sandy but a little loamier than my parents' garden. It's sandy enough to grow good tobacco and sweet taters but enough loam that it won't dry completely out in 3 days.

It's about the right time for cabbage, broccoli, garden peas, etc. and the feed store had seed taters this week......I had a great, great uncle that always said to plant taters at Valentine's Day. It'll be a little early but I intend to have sweet corn in the ground on or just after Mar. 20.
