final drive pans
Correct me if I am wrong the final drive pans are both the same right and left. Also they have to be removed to change the final drive oil lubricant. Has anyone ever tried to mount some type of drain plug on the bottom of the pan . One could drill a 1/2 inch hole in the bottom of the pan weld a narrow plate with a 1/2 inch hole in it and weld on a 1/2 x1/4 inch bushing to accommodate a 1/4 inch plug. Will something like this work. Food for thought.

Re: final drive pans
They are the same left and right, they do have to be removed to drain the oil. The plug could snag on something and rip a hole in that thin sheet metal, may be why they don’t have one.

Re: final drive pans
My first thought would be how often are you planning on changing the oil? I think the final drives are similar to a pickup's rear axle, I don't recall many (if any?) I've seen having drain plugs. There just isn't the need to change it unless something inside needs serviced, and then the cover has to come off. The oil is changed while "you're in there" once ever couple three decades. I doubt much oil would drain out unless it was a very hot day in August anyway.

I have the gaskets to change drop pans and check. It will be the first time since 1975. No leaks
