Bus Driver's Cub Drawbar Drill Jig

Postby T-Mo » Fri Mar 09, 2018 12:45 pm

This was sent to me so I could do a 3D model and a 2D drawing. If anyone has any suggestions, comments, etc., especially Bus Driver, please feel free to post them here before I send this to Dennis to place into the pdf manual section.

It is a jig for drilling drawbar/implement mounting holes in the finals, in preparation for tapping and helicoiling them.

If I remember correctly, it was for either drilling out broken bolts. You could install a couple bolts in the good holes and the jig would allow you to drill through the alignment guides to find the center again. Or you could drill and tap for a larger bolt, torque that bolt down and then cut it off flush, install this jig and redrill for the proper 5/8=11 threads.

I see Don beat me to the punch. My question is the proper drill for the 5/8-11 heli-coil is 21/32". I see Bus Driver used 5/8 diameter collars. My question is did drilling through these 5/8" diameter collars allow you to use the 5/8-11 heli-coil tap or did you have to remove the jig and then redrill with the proper 21/32 drill?

Can’t be for the final Implement holes. The top hole on a final is straight up from the bottom hole. Not so in this drawing

Edit: unless you’re only utilizing two of the holes, then it could be for final

From TM's pics you can see you'll only use 3 of the 4 holes in the jig, depending which way you use it.Image

Thanks for the pic. Going by memory, I sure thought third hole was 90 degrees from other ones. I also wondered, like you, about the 5/8 inch hole

Why is it called a Drawbar Drill Jig, rather than a Final Drill Jig? :?

Definitely spaced for the final drive implement holes. Here is my jig that I bought from Earl.

Val, I have been planning to produce ones like I have.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

The original creator of this drawing called it a Drawbar Hole Drilling Jig.
