Greetings from Australia!

Postby jastusa » Mon Nov 26, 2018 5:26 am

Hi, Jason Tusa here, from Kyneton, Victoria, Australia. I have recently purchased a '49 Cub, not going at the moment but looks to be in good repair. Just finishing off converting to 12v (after following a you-tube series by Just Tinkering, thank you Sir), so almost there, though have had some pain freeing up the governor leaver/arm (and in turn now need to replace the governor thrust bearing as it came apart whilst dismantling, basically due to my ineptitude). All good fun nonetheless, and I'm looking forward to completing the restoration and doing nothing more but driving the rig around on our 6 acre plot. cheers, Jason.

Jason, welcome to the forum. If you have two posts under your belt (you're half way there with 1 post), you can access and download manuals from here. Just click on the Quick Links on the upper left, and scroll down to the PDF Manual, second from the bottom of the list. That will take you to the manual section where you can then download the manuals that is available for downloading.

Again, welcome to the site.

Welcome! :hattip: Learn how to post photos (they need to be reduced in size)...we LOVE photos!!

And no matter how many photos you take during disassembly, you'll be missing the very one you need to figure out how it goes back together! So keep on clicking!

Welcome, Jason!

Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:

After your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the free PDF Manuals. They are located via "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals". Through that link, you'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. You'll be able to familiarize yourself with your new-to-you Cub more quickly. Implement Manuals are also available.

Might also enjoy reading through this thread: What to do with a Cub you just brought home

Take some pictures of your tractor and post them. We’d like to see it.

Glad you joined us.

Thanks all for the welcoming comments and 'pre-reading' - I'll be creating a second post very soon, as I can't get my cub going..Suspect it's timing related as had to completely disassemble the distributor (water ingress), and the governor arm was seized so had to be removed (and in the proces the thrust bearing fell apart in my hands), so I'm pretty sure the timing in all places it out of whack, non-magneto ignition system btw). cheers, jason.

By the "Posts" counter below your name (on the right), you've already got 3 posts, so you won't have any limitations to accessing and downloading the PDF manuals.

G’day mate! Welcome to the forum Australia is my second home spent a year traveling the entire continent in the early 90s still have good friends in Melbourne and Brisbane area ! Wife and I have been back four times hope to get back one more time at least . There is another forum member up in the Echuca area. This is a great group to provide you with answers to any of your questions ! Know that the Cubs are pricey compared to here in the USA but they are neat little tractors and really easy to work on! All of us love pictures of other members tractors and do not hesitate to ask questions. Dusty B

Thanks T-mo, Dale, Bob, Stanton, Mike, Dusty.B for the warm welcome. Admittedly I had stalled with the work on my '49 Cub, life got in the way, along with winter, but we are almost over that hump down here in Australia, having just entered spring, so I'm back working on the Cub. I have re-wired fully now to 12v, it has a new Carby, Governor sorted out (along with timing, also using the cork and balloon trick to find TDC!) and distributor has been completely rebuilt (I ordered a stack of parts from TM Tractors in the US over winter, so almost there).

If I can't get it going this weekend, I'll be back on the forum next week. Will definitely post some pics soon. cheers, jason

oh, Dusty.B: nice to hear someone is familiar with my locality, and yup, the Cub is a little dearer in Oz, worth it though!
