Brian from Illinois here and Greetings to all. I bought my first Cub tractor about 9 years ago, a 1967 Lo Boy with a 6’ woods mower. What a sweet and fun tractor.
A friend had a non running Cub Cadet 100 that they needed to get rid of because they were moving and told me to come and pick it up. Got it running and again, a fun little tractor.
Another friend was selling their cottage in Northern Wisconsin and needed to sell their tractor. I agreed on the price and drove up to pick it up with my Dad, our last fun road trip. It was a 1949 Farmall Cub with a grader blade and a bunch of cultivator and plow attachments. What a special tractor. That’s number 3.
Last year I bought a BN from a friend in upstate NY with a front snow plow. Number 4. I also have a B that I bought from my Great Uncles estate but is currently not running.
Then a week ago I found a Lo Boy on a local auction. The description said it ran, had a mower and front plow blade. When I went to pick it up, I found that its a 1966 Lo Boy with a IH mower, the front blade, quick hitch and has a Howard de-speeder I think it’s called. Just another fantastic tractor, number 6 by the way.
So this last tractor is how I found your site. I really want to find out more about this Howard control, find some operating information and how to service it. I also want to take good care of all my tractors so I can see there’s lots of information I want to catch up on. Thanks to all for taking the time to provide your knowledge for guys like me that want to learn. I have a few other color tractors but my grandkids and I sure do like the Cubs.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Welcome to the Forum, Brian!
Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:
Don't know if you have any of the manuals to your tractors, but after your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals on this site. There’s a few ways to do that:
You'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. Implement Manuals are also available. The "Howard Speed Reduction Unit" manual is also on site, so get that 2nd post logged!
We’d encourage you (and perhaps your grandkids, if they're old enough) to take the Safety Test located in the Safety Forum: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=68084
As Dale stated, there are a lot of good threads dealing with Cub repair and maintenance in the How To Forum. Located here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=11
Take some pictures of your tractors and post them, we’d like to see them.
Remember:
• When you have a specific question, start a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum. There's different sub-forums for Cub, Cub Cadet and the B's.
• Before posting, use the Preview button before hitting Submit--it'll show you exactly what your post will look like, including pictures.
• When adding your comments to a thread, be sure to look at the date of the last poster. If it’s more than a 6 months old, the posters are probably not going to see it. Consider starting a new thread.
Glad you joined us.

Don't know if you have any of the manuals to your tractors, but after your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals on this site. There’s a few ways to do that:
- From a desktop or laptop, go to "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals".
- You can also go to “Cub Info” in the upper toolbar, then hit “Rudi’s Manuals”. From there, you can access a variety of information.
- If you're using a phone, go to the "Links Directory" (second category down the main page). Once in "Links Directory" , scroll down to the second section "Tractor Parts & Manuals" and you'll find them there.

Hi,
The Cub and LoBoy operator's manual can help you learn about maintenance that the Cub or LoBoy needs.
You have several tractors of different years, I guess.
Below is the 1965 Cub and LoBoy operator's manual. The experts on here recommend people read it. It has lots of info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. There is a table of contents on page 1, and the index begins on page 75.
It shows how Cubs originally looked in it. The lube section begins on page 59.
http://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.clea ... index.html
It shows the electrical system that a 1965, or 1966 Cub and LoBoy originally had.
Cubs made before mid 1964 originally had 6 volt, positive ground electrical systems.
The manual has 6 and 12 volt info, but the charging system was originally different some on a 1949 Cub, you said you have one of those too.
The Touch Control uses Case IH Hy-Tran fluid. It is sold at Case IH dealers.
There are other brands, be sure it works with IH hydraulic systems before buying one.
Below is a post I made about checking and changing the Touch Control fluid, and removing the air from the system.

I would check or change all the oils before using the Cub, or LoBoy. Using it with low oil in a gear housing can damage the parts in the housing.
There are 3 separate gear housings, with 3 separate oil levels to check, in the rear area of a Cub, or LoBoy, the transmission, and 2 final drives.
The transmissions in Cubs or LoBoys commonly get water in them, from rain, or condensation inside the housing over time.
The air cleaner is an oil bath air cleaner. Dirt that is sucked in settles to the bottom of the oil cup. It should have clean, light motor oil in the oil cup to work right.
There is a search box at the top of the page, to the right of the Farmall Cub, you can find info in posts that have been made.
There is a 1949 Cub owner's manual at the top of the page at Cub Info, then go to Rudi's Manuals.
There are other years of manuals there also.

Re: New Member from Northern Illinois
Hi,
They have said on here to not use the Howard de-speeder for any hard pulling, it can break it.
They were made to slow the speed of the tractor, not for pulling hard with the hitch.
I have only seen pics of them on here, it may have a oil fill plug, oil level plug, and oil drain plug, I'm not sure. If it has oil plugs, I would check or change it's oil before using the Cub.
It may have oil seals that could leak, be sure it's oil is not leaking out.
I haven't seen a manual for it on here, maybe you can find one online somewhere.
