Farmall Cub

Hello all. I figure since I've been beggin' for help and info, I at least owe everyone an introduction. My name is Dana, I live in Topsham Maine and am 36 years old. I am currently an engineering supervisor in a local Shipyard and in recent past was a warranty engineer that lived with and sailed with the US NAVY on new ships leaving the yard for up to 6 months at a time.

I grew up on a Cub that my grandfather owned since new and in 2002 he passed away leaving me the greatest memories of my life along with that Cub. Shortly after his passing, I changed positions within the company that had less travel and allowed me to get back to my family, my pets and my Cub.

I build a 32 by 32 foot shop, restored and installed a furnace, insulated and got to work on this important part of my history.

The fact that this Cub has been in my family since it was rolled off the "showroom floor" in Northern Maine makes it very special to me and the fact that this forum is all about helping someone like myself restore this the right way makes it the best experience overall.

Welcome welcome thrice welcome you are. Looks like 16 inch centers on the wall studs. How high is the shop? I built one a little smaller 28 by 28 10 foot high.
Cub looks great too. Nice with the family history story.

Hey Bill,

Yep, 16 on center 2x6x8's. Got 2x8x20's for roof, and 2x10x20's for the floor above. Its got a 6-12 pitch. It is my "TOY BOX" as my wife puts it. hahaha....

Jeff,

If I read this question correctly, you were inquiring about the headers over the garage doors? If so, those are 2x6's doubled up on the flat side. I was concerned at first about them being that way but the OSB sheathing all around is screwed and that firmed everything up in a big way around the front. Hind sight, I'd have done 10 foot walls but it was my first so I didn't believe I'd ever need anything higher than 8's.

BUT, the driveway is much better now.........

Elliot, strangley enough I have hesitated starting this Cub. Nervous about doing a restore on something I knew very little about. I recently restored a 1985 chevy truck to get practice on sheet metal welding and autobody work/paint. Built a paint booth on the left side of my garage with drop down plastic in the middle.

Its the engine work that makes me a bit nervous, but thanks to the feedback from this forum, I believe I'm on the right track.

The "black box" is my version of my homemade blast cabinet.

The orange thing, is an EEBD box, Emergency Escape Breathing Device box from a navy ship. I use it to store my full face respirators for painting.

I worked on the USS Deyo 450 MHz radar when the ship was under going repairs at Bath Iron Works in Portland. That was somewhere 1986 or so. There's a story that goes along but much too long to type on Thanksgiving :wink:

NorthDM welcome to the site. Only one problem I see with the TOY house is you built it too small for the toys you will be collecting for the cub. I have always liked G. Willers motto " A Cub for every implement"
