I am married with no children, enjoy hunting and rides on my atv ,and old tractors.Been basically involved in garden tractors, but I bought my second full size
which is a Super A .Having a little trouble finding the correct year, serial plate is gone and the numbers don't seem to match up.Engine is stuck, which is nothing serious, sheet metal is all there good and straight, besides being rusty.Looking for info on it,brought me here.I know this is a Cub forum, but seems to be a ton a knowledge about all the Farmall's.So thanks for having me here. :D

Tommy:

An interest in old iron is all that is needed, and I imagine if you hang around us long enough, you will end up acquiring one, we all do it seems..

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family.
And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information,
it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and
topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

Although the Manual Server is primarily focused on Cubs, I have scanned/acquired scanned copies of various letter series manuals including some for the Super A and AV tractors. I hope they help, there is an Owner's manual, Parts Catalog and the Specialty Attachments Manual available at the moment. Some of the Blue Ribbon Service Manual materials also applies to the SA and others.

Welcome and enjoy :!:

Welcome to the Forum Tommy.
There are quite a few folks here who have more than just Cubs. I have a few larger IH tractors myself. If you can locate the cast codes from the major castings of the tractor, we can narrow down the year of manufacture. The will be in a number-number-letter (#-#-A) format, which will equate to a day-month-year code. Also, there should be a SN stamped into the block above the #1 cylinder, which will help.
Good luck and have fun with your tractor, great to have you with us.

Thanks Rudi, but all the manuals came with it,appreciate the offer though.

Screwstick-if I go by the casting codes ,they say 48,but I have # 651687 stamped into the trans by the seat, which is the same numbers as the serial plate would be,did they stamp any trans with serial #'s,if so it would put it at a 53?And the engine is FAAM #266896.Any help would be appreciated in this.

Thanks for the welcome Tommy.

Interesting. My Super A chassis serial number is 266908. It's a 48. It's not nearby, or I would check the engine serial number.

Tommy, '53 SA serial numbers were 336880-353347. As far as I know, IH never stamped the trans case with the SN, so whatever that number is, I believe it is not the original SN of the tracor. The engine SN sounds '48ish to me. I check my two tomorrow to check the relationship between the Tractor SN and the Engine SN.

With the engine serial number and the casting codes all saying 48, it is probably correct. The number stamped on the case indicates 53 but it may be a replacement. The chart I looked at said the serial number was stamped on the left side of the clutch or transmission housing.

Thats where I found the serial # upside down on the lh side of the housing.Well I guess its a 48.I appreciate all the help ,nothing worse than not knowing the year.
