City folk w/Cub; now what do we do?

My wife and I are newbies originally from NJ and are now in Northeast Washington state. We own 5 acres and bought a 1947 cub to help with the garden (only about 1/2 acre). We know the Cub is overkill but thought it was a great looking tractor; as well as giving me something to "fix up".

After a roadtrip to Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Illinois, we have a cultivator, couple of plows and a front blade. When we attached a plow it only bounced over the ground; we have very rocky soil which is glacial till. We figured out how to attach the cultivator and that worked better. We would like suggestions and tips on setting up and using the Cub plows to work in soil amendments and plant material to enrich the soil which we cleared of evergreens.

Thanks.

Congratulations on getting a Cub and some useful implements. Photos of what you have and how you have it set up will help with the diagnosis of your plowing problems.

If you can not post pics email them to me at dbennett7013@wildbloe.net and I will post them for you. I feel you may not have all of the parts for the plow

Here is an excellent "How to" that you might want to read and see if it addresses any of your problems: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38411

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

Congrats on getting your first Cub. I don't think it is overkill, since you want to be able to do a bit of gardening.. the Cub will probably be the ticket. 1/2 acre of garden is a great start.. and I am sure you will enjoy gardening with the Cub. Have a look at the links above, all the manuals you probably will need are available there to browse .. print off the pages you need to set up the cultivators and such..

Hope it helps

welcome to the forum. I also only have 5 acres, but have 2 cubs and an H. LOL. Did you get a depth control lever with your plow? It is necessary to get it to dig in. Look at the pictures in this link, it is the lever on the right side of the tractor.
