Welcome to the group. Dedicating your Cub to the memory of your grandfather is a great idea.
Why not take a weekend getaway with the wife and drive down to Tipton Indiana for the Central Indiana Cubfest September 17th - 18th. There's a lot to learn about Cubs and you will meet some fantastic folks.

Welcome,
It is great to have another member from Michigan. I was in Grand Rapids last weekend and I enjoy the west side of the state.
The most fun is trying to figure out what someone else has done to the tractor over the years and it looks like you will have your work cut out for you, starting with the rear tires.
Enjoy your tractor and do not forget that their is plenty of help here

Welcome aboard. I also liked your vacum on your carb. May come in handy at cubtug. Barnyard had the right idea. You got to get to a cubfest near you, you will have a blast, learn a lot, be glad you came. We got a few more this year.

Welcome, Newb! It's always great to have new folks on board. Sounds like you've already made lots of progress, good deal! I'd bet the tractor came from a dairy farm, the vac. valve on the manifold was likely set up to run a milker during power outages.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome! I see you guys have very quickly picked up some of the P.O. "mods" to the tractor.
The rear tire kills me everytime I look at the tractor. I'm not looking forward to dismounting it and flipping it around.
The vacuum port is unique and I'm not quite sure what they used it for, however the notion that it may have been used on a dairy farm I think is very plausible especially in this area of Michigan. I figure it's going to serve a good purpose for me when I seafoam the engine, then it will be removed and plugged
The back story I got with this tractor was that the farmer I bought it from bought it from a very poor family that had to sell it to make ends meet. This makes sense when you see some of the "mods" done to the tractor...clearly they were trying to save money. However, the choke cable addition seems contrary to that, because it's hard to get cheaper than a bent piece of rod.
None the less, the tractor is finally getting the much needed attention it deserves now. I still have not decided if I'm going to "restore" it back to factory like condition or make a few of my own "changes" to it to make it my own. Which ever route I take I plan on posting alot of pics along the way to share.
