Farmall Cub

Hello, my name is Ira Peterson and I work for The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. One of the goals of our campus is sustainability, and lessening its carbon footprint. Here at the college, we have an Organic Farm. Our students and Advisor(s) have a project that has been in the works for some time now. They want to convert a Farmall Cub Tractor ('47-'64) from gas to electric power for use on the farm. Obviously the first step is to find said tractor. to Farmallcub.com Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

That is an interesting program/goal and we would probably be interested in following the progress. Something possibly similar has already been done -- the solar powered cub -- if you use the advanced search above you should get a few threads with links etc., on the one that the fella in Maine built a few years ago. Not sure how that will work out ..

You will probably find a Cub in your area .. they are there. Not all that common apparently but they are there. You might have to find the implements separately though -- good luck on finding a Cub for this project.

One thing you have already found is a great group of the finest folks on Earth! Cub owners. I'm sure you will soon agree this is the best forum on the WWW.

DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE THE CARBON FOOT PRINT FOR THE CARBON AND STEEL GOING INTO THE ELECTRIC MOTORS YOU WILL USE AS WELL AS THE RARE EARTH IMPORTED FROM CHINA USED IN THE BATTERIES TO POWER YOUR ELECTRIC CUB.
I am not trying to be s nay sayer but trying to interject the idea that there are side effects.

good evening mr. peterson , from the deep south. good luck with your project. you will find some very helpful folks here. where i work at lsu, we get to work with the engineering students often, and solar/electric is high on their list. the practical electric cub may be a bit elusive, but fun . Hi Ira, and welcome to the Washington World of Cubs. We are located in Zillah. Cubs are not that common in this part of the nation, but they are around if you really search for them. We have two Cubs and three Cub Cadets as of today. I was going to post a message to you about a Cub for sale in NE Oregon at a reasonable price, then my wife found an ad for two Cub Cadets on the same list, so we had to scoop on the pair for her.

The Oregon Cub ad is still up. Its URL is http://kpr.craigslist.org/grd/2590908563.html and it is located in Milton-Freewater. I talked to the guy about his Cub, which sounds like a good buy at $1300. I never looked at it because I found another Cub for sale about 50 miles closer and ended up buying it instead.

I remember seeing something here about an electric Cub. It seems to me there was some discussion a while back about a guy who converted a Cub and had a web site about it. You may be able to find it if you do some searching. I can't remember if it was powered by batteries or solar power.

Anyway, good luck on your project.
