Well, I've posted several questions in the Cub forum, but figured it was time to introduce myself. I've just acquired my first tractor a 1951 Farmall Cub. It was given to me by the wife of a good friend that passed away several years ago. It has sat for several years exposed to the elements before I got it home and should make a nice restoration project. The cub itself is a little overkill for my garden. While I have 3 1/2 acres of land, only about 1 acre is cleared and the house takes up some of that room. I'm envisioning the cub as more of a restoration / show project with some use in the garden and few random chores around the yard. I really envy those of you that have large farms. I know the life is hard, the hours are long and pay is low, but I would love to do nothing more than run a large cattle/horse/farming ranch somewhere where lot sizes are measured in the thousands of acres. Unfortunately it seems unless you inherit land like that it's hard to start up. For now I'll have to be content with my small garden.

I currently live in Bumpass, Louisa, Virginia with my wife and 2 daughters. My wife did grow up doing large vegetable gardens with her dad and the girls are starting to catch the bug too. We spend as much time outdoors as we can whether it's working in the garden or taking weekend camping trips.

One thing I do have to say about this board, is that there are quite a few friendly people here. I've gotten a lot of good advice so far and made good use of the search engine. Many of my questions have been answered through old posts. I look forward as my knowledge and ability grows to being a good contributing member of the this board.

Allen, welcome to the website. I'm sure you'll find plenty for that Cub to do on 3 1/2 acres. You will be surprised once you find yourself using it more and more.

You are a good nine hours from me, but since you enjoy weekend camping trips you are more than welcome to join many of the members from this web site June 1 & 2 for a great time at the Barnyard Bash Cubfest 20 miles west of Cincinnati Ohio. I have room for campers, but there are only electric hook ups. You can bring the Cub along and the guys will give you a hand with just about anything it needs. CubFests are a great way to meet many of the forum members as well as learn more about Cubs from the guys who know. More info on that can be found here www.barnyardbash.com

Allen:

G'day and congrats to you on becoming the keeper of that particular Cub. You will definitely find that there will be plenty of uses for your Cub as you become more familiar with it. Sounds like you have a bit of a wood lot on your 3-1/2 acres ... and your Cub should be useful in managing that, I know mine are.

I guess you know that there are lots of resources for our members, can't remember ifn this was posted for you yet before so here it is..
