Hello all! Just took delivery of a 1950 Farmall Cub. Pretty much a complete restoration and 100% working. I've restored a few antique vehicles but never a tractor. Thought it better to stick with what I know how to restore. Looks like parts to restore these are about as expensive as car restoration parts. Got this one at a great price for less than I could have restored one for. One question I do have is why the battery boxes are so shallow? The posts just about touch the lid. I put a rubber pad on the underside of the lid to prevent shorting out the battery. Thanks!

The original battery fit perfect in the factory box. The problem is those batteries are hard to find these days. Some after market boxes are made a bit taller to accomodate today's batteries.

G'day and congrats on acquiring your 1st new to you Cub. Since it has been restored .. (to original??) maintenance will probably be your biggest concern. Suggest you read the -
McCormick Farmall Cub Owner's Manual 1950. The links below will take you to a lot of other useful information.
As Bill said, the original batteries fit the box nicely. Newer batteries are about 3/8" higher. I think Group 1 or 19L batteries will fit pretty well. I also use a mouse pad in my prototype battery box. My other boxes are made higher so I won't have to worry about shorting out.

A group 19L battery will fit better than a group 1.
