Hello! I'm from Washington State and I inherited a 1947 or 1948 Farmall Cub from my father-in-law. It ran last year when I trailered it from his house to my shop. I would like to restore it when the time permits. Great photos on here to tell me how it should look.

Several questions from a newbie who's never owned a tractor before:

It won't start presently; it will turn over but that's it. I changed the fuel filter, still wouldn't start. When I unscrewd the muffler and poured a little gas down the carb, it would chug, indicating spark, but still wouldn't start. What can a beginner do to try and fix?

Any recommendations? Went to the troubleshooting page here, but info is sparse. Is there a service manual available online?

Please also respond to my email, tjhall31@hotmail.com if you could since I am a newbie. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!

Do you have spark? If so, disconnect the hose from the carb inlet and spray a bit of carb cleaner/ether in the intact and turn the tractor over. If it fires then look to carb or fuel lines for an issue. If it doesn't look to timing or spark on the plugs.

Congrats on the Cub, and let us know how things progress!

G'day to you and congrats :applause: to you on becoming the keeper of the family Cub :D

The first thing that I would suggest is to become familiar with the Cub via the manuals such as the - McCormick-Deering Farmall Cub Owner's Manual 5-23-47.

There are many resources available to our members as I am sure you will find out shortly :big smirk: and of course what you have found already. Suggest that you repost your questions in the main Farmall Cub Forum and our members will gladly help you get your Cub running.

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

Thanks folks! I will start posting in the main forum as suggested.

Be ready for some stupid questions from a recently retired military guy who never owned a tractor but is will to start from scratch.

Thanks Raymond. Yes, I get a "chug chug" when I sprayed ether in the intake port (after I found it), but it won't run. Will have to find the distributor (haven't done that since my high school hot rod days) and check it out.
