Hi folks, a brief introduction from new jersey. I am searching for my first cub. Right now I am fascinated with the lo boy series.
I only got the garden tractor bug about a year ago. Currently I own 3 wheel horse garden tractors. One is a 1966,,, model 854 that I just completed a refresh on. Great tractors, but, I find myself wanting a lo boy. There are a few I am checking out, as you cub folks know they seem overpriced or piles of junk requireing everything for the highest prices. Lol I find these owner websites invaluable for seeking information and parts. Hands on how to know ledge from owners is the biggest asset to a new owner. I hope in the future I will be able to pay back and contribute to this site to. Oh, another thing, any tips and pointers appreciated. I would prefer the 185 but so far can only find fairly clean 184 models. Imho, the extra horsepower is "maybe" worth the wait?

Well folks, there is my modest story. Glad to be aboard this site.

Glenn. :thanx:

Welcome Glen,

I am originally from north jersey, used to hang down in your area over the years. If your into the lo-boy series the 184 is actually the best, the 184 was made after the 185 so most think the 185 is the latest.

Welcome.

Numbered Cub Low-Boys are great lawn mowers. But, BUT, there is very little in the way of implements for them. If you are planning on using the tractor for garden work; plowing, disking, as a general purpose work tractor, etc., a standard Cub would be a better tractor. Lots of different implements available for them.

The extra horse power. The numbered Cubs are rated at lawn mower horse power. Standard Cubs are horsepower rated on the draw bar. To paraphrase Jim Becker, it's an advertising gimmick.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Here is a little more about the 184 and determining horsepower.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
