Just joined with a new to me Cub
Hi, I'm Nick, just found and bought my first Cub. Was a working tractor mowing a guys lawn, 7 acres, and plowing his driveway in the winter across town from me... now it will be doing same for me! Mowed today, ran great. Been building/working on old VW bugs; now will work on this tractor... VERY COOL!

Re: Just joined with a new to me Cub
Well, just got my field mowed a second time, all went good, looks great... until... backing it up to my garage to shut down and roll it in, I stopped and I gave the steering wheel a quick jerk to straighten the wheels out and "POP!" the dang thing broke off!!! I knew it was after market when I got the tractor... anyway, inside it said: The Kelch Corp. Mequon, Wis. 58002. The Cub is safe again in my garage - now how do I get a stock steering wheel for my '57 Cub and how do I install it?! Thanks... Nick.

Nick, TM Tractor, JP Tractor Salvage and HamiltonBob's (Forum sponsors at the bottom of the page) sell either new repros or used steering wheels. To remove the old one, you'll need to remove the large nut on the end of the shaft and then use a two or three jaw puller to pull the middle off. There is a key in there also that you can probably reuse. You might want to spray the nut and shaft with some penetrating oil first. If it looks like it's tightly rusted on, heat would help.

Re: Just joined with a new to me Cub
Thank you Bob! Got and steering wheel and key on order with TM. Sprayed down the upper steering assembly nut and parts with PB Blaster and letting it soak in while I wait for the new wheel to arrive... will soak again later this week. Will locate a puller to get the middle nut off - Thanks again sir. Nick.
