Rear Main Oil Seal Retainers

Postby tst » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:59 pm

Hi All, I now machine your rear main oi seal retainers to take a new seal that is a nice tight press fit, it is a good double lip seal so it rides in two different spots on the crankshaft surface for better sealing, I also press the warped retainers and flatten the gasket surfaces on a machinist block for good sealing, rethread the holes for the oil pan, heilacoil stripped holes if necessary, the retainer is cleaned and glass beaded so its ready to install when it is returned to you, the cost is $40 plus $5.50 for priority mail shipping, This service is a one day in house job so it wil get back to you quickly for short down times, You can see in the pictures I do a lot of them
I also many cub implement decals available, I also make new fast hitch lift rods for farmall cubs, new tie rods, inners and outers, cub 22 mower hold up rods
Just PM me with any questions
thanks Tim

Here are some installation tips for the oil seal retainers to help make your cub leak free and oil tight

Crankshaft should be cleaned with crocus cloth or a fine scuff pad so it smooth and clean so the new seal is not damaged.

Use a new oil retainer gasket and new oil pan gasket, use a good sealer such as permatex aviation sealer part # 80019, silicone sealer is not recommended. Do not use old gaskets!

Use a thin film of light grease on the lip of the seal so when the engine starts it is not dry which could damage the seal, it also helps installing the seal easier.

Torque retainer bolts in a crisscross pattern to 25 ft pounds as to not warp the plate.

Flywheel bolts need to be cleaned and sealed with locktite sealer red and the crankshaft threads cleaned with brake clean, this is to prevent oil leaks through the flywheel mounting bolts as the crankshaft is drilled all the way through into the crankcase of the engine, oil can leak through the bolt threads which can also damage the clutch disc, rear seals can also be diagnosed as leaking as a result of the the flywheel bolts leaking.

Good evening all,
I am new to the forum and just registered so please bear with me. My computer ignorance may bleed out.
I have an IH Cub 154, s/n22370. I am trying to get in touch with a member who reworks rear main seal retainers. I found this article but I cannot find a PM address.

Hopefully someone can direct me.

JW, If you look to the right side of tst's first post, you'll see a little box with the outline of a head and torso and the letters PM. If you click on that, it will take you to another screen where you can type in a message.
