Woods L59 on a 140

Postby the1g8r » Fri Apr 10, 2020 11:50 am

Hey everybody. Hope all are doing well during this challenging time.
I was recently pitched a great deal on equipment for my fast hitch 140. Price was for the lot and smoking so I jumped on it. Included was a L59 belly mower; however, the years hadn’t been kind to the previous owner’s memory, so his info was limited.
Mounting the mower looks to be rather straightforward as long as I get the belt twist correct and I’ll be referring to the manual to help me there.
So, here’s the questionable part of the equation for me. I’m aware that I’ll need the belt drive housing and the appropriate drive pulley to operate the mower. Sourcing those parts isn’t an issue. What I have been unable to discovery’s is whether or not adding those parts will allow the fast hitch to continue to work without having to remove it each time I want to use the mower.
If so, I would probably sell the mower if the fast hitch is not quick and simple to remove and not invest in the necessary parts. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

The mower and fast hitch combo will work together, I have the same set up. But if using a fast hitch plow or disk you will have to remove the mower.

Depends on which type mule drive you can mount on your 140. Here's a pic of a Pennington mule drive on my Cub LoBoy with FH. It mounts to the rear of the transmission and is independent of the mower attachment.

Thanks for the info. My tractor will accept the drive unit that mounts directly above the PTO and runs the belt pulley 90 degrees to it. Without the part and pulley on hand, I was afraid it would interfere with the fast hitch range of motion. Looks like I’ve got to decide how much I could or would actually use the mower. I’m still amazed at the versatility of these machines
