Farmall Cub

I am trying to get the pulley back on the crank. I am about 1/2 from being in the right place but it won't move. Should I just keep cranking the ratchet until it moves, or is there a trick that I am missing? The crank and pulley are clean and lightly oiled.

Hmmmmmm......I put mine on by cooling the shaft with ice packs while heating up the pulley in hot oil. Carefully handle the hot pulley over to the shaft and should slide right on.

Take some emery cloth and polish the shaft and inside the pully bore, make sure there are no burrs etc. Throw the pully in the oven at around 200 and heat it up, lube the shaft and slip it in.

Don't go too crazy with the emery cloth. It needs to be tight so it won't come off by itself. Just remove any burrs. Heating the pulley is the key. Have some all-thread screwed into the crankshaft before you start. Use a flat washer and nut as needed to pull it on.

After the SECOND try, I finally used the oven at 300 degrees for 35 min, and then it was serious pucker-time
wondering if the dang thing would finally seat, of course a bigger air compressor might have helped

Yea, I always put them in the oven first. Use a stud instead of the bolt to pull it on too. You need all the thread engagement you can get in the crank as not to destroy it.

This might be a stupid question, but are you sure the bolt hasn't bottomed out in the hole, or run out of threads on the bolt?

Well John that is a good question but no I have been using different size bolts and adding washer but that is not working.
For my last attempt I cooked the pulley in the kitchen oven (my wife came home and was wondering what in the world I could be cooking) for an hour at 350 and it did not work.

So now I am going with Jim's advise and I bought a length of all thread and made a big washer out of 3/16 plate and will cook the pulley again and give it a go tomorrow. I have thought about heating the pulley with my torch but I don't want to damage the pulley. I have been fooling with this pulley for close to a month now and just want to get it on.

I didn't use a torch for another reason. I didn't want to get the pulley so hot that it would cook my nice new oil seal
'Course I might have chanced it had I not gotten it on on the THIRD try!!

Looks like you are doing it right. Any luck yet?

I have been on vacation at my camp in Maine. Just got back today, will give the pulley a try tomorrow. Maine has had a ton of snow and rain and there was plenty of flooding. The bridge on my property waved good bye and floated away.

Looks like you have different fish to fry now. Probably need that cub out there to help out though.
