IH Magneto, any idea on what it fits

Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:12 pm

I was wondering of one of you experts could help me identify an International Magneto I ran across. I have two of them and they have been in an old barn since the early 70's at least. It has "TYPE-E4A" on it as well as a stamped number "12553" It notes "PATENTS PENDING" and the second one notes three patent dates, so it may possibly be a newer one?? (I will post the second one separately as I haven't figured out how to do more than one picture). Thanks in advance for any information and ball park value (core?) it may have.

E4A is the model of the magneto. If the 12552 is stamped in, it is probably a serial number. I see it in a 10-20 Parts Catalog from '29. Looks like it may have been used from about 1927, was on multiple models for several years until an improved magneto came along.
