Most people that know me know the story behind mine, but just in case:

Mine was my grandfather's first and only new tractor, he later added a very used JD B to his lineup. Local IH dealer had a waiting list of farmers wanting tractors during and after WWII,after the crop was in in the fall of 1948 my grandfather went by the IH dealer to check on his position on the list. He was near the top, but the dealer said he didn't expect any new tractors anytime soon. Within two weeks, word came that his tractor was on the way. My dad has mentioned that he was told what day and time the train was expected in town, and he could actually come to see it unloaded, but I don't know if he did.

At some time or another I guess the Super A has done just about every conceivable job. When I was little I got a lot of "lap time" riding around with my dad and grandfather. When I was 9 or 10 I cultivated soybeans with it all summer long, which was quite possibly the most fun I have ever had. I got serious about restoring it in 2000. By 2005 it was more or less done. There are always little things that need tweaking, but it looks pretty good to me. It will always be my most prized material possession.

Al

I want a second one, one day. My students are woking on a '39 A now but I want another Super A. I'd like to put all the "farmer mods" these tractors got over the years---deluxe, 140-style seat with backrest, firecrater sleeves and pistons, fast hitch, etc.

I've got the '57 130 which is the younger brother to the 100 and the SA.

I love that machine, and my 2 cubs.

With the help of some very special people on this forum (Dale Shaw) I will have mine home about Jan 21st. It will need some work and will join the stable with my Lo-Boy the Lo-Boy is named Simba and because it was so hard to shedule it for pickup by truckers, everytime they were ready the owner was busy. Finally Dale stepped up and a little swap and coin "Damien" will be home, he smokes a bit and will try to get him on a no smoke policy as soon as I can. Will try to do a pic or two but will have to learn how or send to someone who can. Well enough said except some fantastic people on this forum Wayne

I ended up with 2 not far apart. Bought the one with larger tires ('54) first because it looked nicer but realized by the time I got a drawbar, draft link and wheel weights I was gona have to spend a bunch more. So I bought the second one ('49) too.

I have a '48 Super A (in addition to my 3 cubs). Rebuilt it a couple years ago, and it has a Woods 59 belly mower mounted. Nice looking pair you have there!!

EDIT: Just realized how old this thread is...now I will probably go back and review it!!

They look good. I'm still picking away at my early A's. I like the side by side photo you have especially for front tire comparison.
What sizes do you have mounted?

Surprisingly they both have 5x15 front tires. Just different manufactures. The tires on the shiney tractor are 2" taller front and back.

I'm liking the beefy tires on the right. Who makes them?
I use my A to collect firewood back in the woods.
Those big fronts might float a little better over the soft stuff.

Ok, zooming in on the pic I can see it.
They sure look beefy.
