super A over bore

I just picked up a super A that has a stuck engine.When i pulled the head off i found that it has 1/4" over sized sleeves and stepped pistons.Does anyone know how much more power this will give me? thanks, ron

OK well without being an expert I would say only a few more horse power. And really to me it would only matter if I were going to be using the tractor for serious stuff like plowing. If the tractor was being used to regular mow like mine, then I would say it would not make much difference.

My grandaddy always said the "Super C Kit" in his (now my) Super A was good for one gear higher---2nd gear loads could now be pulled in third, etc.

I will add that when I started restoring it, we went back with a plain, 3" flat-top aluminum piston. I couldn't tell much difference, but then again the Fire Crater overbores were worn out.

I discovered that the tractor serial no. shows that it is a 1948 model but the engine is marked as a c123 so it is a newer engine than the tractor. The no. that is stamped on the machined flat spot on the engine is 10082 does anyone know what would be the year of this engine. thanks, ron

Probably 1955. Check the date code on the block. It should have year A.

It has 4 12 A and 354898 R3 on the block. What do these stand for, thanks, ron

4 12 A is the date code. It represents April 12, 1955 and is the date the raw casting was poured at the foundry.

354898 R3 is the part number of the block. That agrees with the comments already posted about it being a C-123 block. It would have left the factory with a 3-1/8 inch bore. The 3-1/4 sleeves currently in it were replacements.

I'm not sure there is any difference that can be seen, certainly nothing obvious.
