Farmall 130 Electrical...

My fairly new 6 volt battery seems barely strong enough to starter my tractor. The battery + goes to the frame and the - to the starter...wires from the generator go to voltage meter and one wire from the volt meter goesto the starter. The charging gauge glass is cracked but the needle moves slightly but always to the - side. I've be told this this the correct hook up...but sometimes the battery is so low that I have to crank to get started. When I bought the tractor nothing was hooked up...could it be that the tractor was converted to a 12 volt system...how can I tell? I sometimes have a metal implement mounted to the tractor setting on the ground...would this drain the battery? How can I tell if the generator is working? Could something be wrong with the voltage regulator...how can I tell? Thanks for all suggestions and recommendations.

Electrical troubleshooting on this tractor will be pretty much the same as for a cub. If you follow Bob M's troubleshooting chart you should be able to figure out what the problem is.

Having attached implements sitting on the ground has nothing to do with battery drain.

As with most electrical systems the best place to start is to clean all cable connections and assure they are tight.

also very carefull inspect your battery cables
replaced with ones that are too small?? should be at least O, OO is better
are they original and all corroded inside?
good connection at the ground to the tractor? take it off, clean very good, grease and new bolt
good luck
