Bearings...or what???

Postby BohemianJon » Wed Apr 13, 2011 8:22 am

On my 130 I've noticed a "howl" when I'm going down the path in 4th gear that seems to be coming from the left rear wheel. I've checked the fluid level in the lower housing near the draw bar and its OK...the transmission level is also where it should be. What's going on??? Thanks.

Howling is typically a term given with bearing problems. You may have pitted or worn bearings.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks BigDog...Ive done bearing jobs on autos and trailers but not on tractors. My 130 has rear wheel weights...and I'm not sure how I should tackle this...any step by step recommendations / suggestions? Or, is there someplace I can read the proper instructions of how to do this? I've looked under the Manuals and FAQ and can't seem to find anything. Need some help...Thanks again.

Since you're dealing with an offset tractor wedge the front axle for stability. I would remove the rear wheel and weight together as a unit. A bit bigger and bulkier but overall easier to maneuver. It's pretty straightforward wrenching.
