repowering a super A
My nephew bought a c 123 power unit engine to put in his super A. They said that it came from a combine. The no. stamped on the block is 58882v, the no. cast into the block is 86629r1. Does anyone know the year of this engine and also how to get the front pulley off to replace the seal. Thanks in advance for any help, ron

Ron - can't help with the dating but I believe the front pulley is very similar to the cub. The contour is slightly different but like the cub pulley you should use a backing plate of some sort such as a bearing separator.

You will run into trouble putting a 123 in where a 113 came out of

I don't think he will--unless maybe it's a late 123 like from a 140 that had the water pump behind the fan. Of course I could be wrong but I thought bolt patterns and so forth were all the same.

Are there any date codes on the engine. If you can find them then you will know about when the engine was built.

I didn't realize that. Always assumed the blocks were the same length/height.

Re: repowering a super A
Boss, one of my SA's had a 113 and the other had a 123. I ended up using the "frame" from the 113 with the engine from the 123. So far everything has gone back OK (well, except for the leaking steering!) Also, I haven't put the grill or hood back on...is there a difference there? Since I haven't rebuilt the grill yet, or found a better one that I can afford, I guess it would be good to know!!!

Re: repowering a super A
Dale If everything has gone together ok I wouldn't worry. I got to thinking that additional height might be from the taller radiator for the bigger engine. Since you're using your original you should be ok.

Re: repowering a super A
Sorry but have been busy and i just read all the replies. My nephew allready has it bolted in the tractor and the only problem he had was the 123 must have had starter mounted backwards from the way the farm tractor model is, There is a "c" shaped opening cast in the bell housing so that starter can be mounted differently and this also omits one screw. There is a small leak at the front seal and he wants to change it. It looks like the pulley will have to be pulled off. Thanks for the replies, ron
