SA Battery cables

Postby Dale Finch » Tue Sep 13, 2011 10:27 am

My SA is 12v, neg ground, and I need new battery cables. Does anyone know what length the positive, battery to starter cable is supposed to be? Also, I have a home made battery box: left and right halves with one bolt each at the steering support/instr panel, and two each at the bottom to the clutch housing. What kind of negative cable is supposed to be used? A braided flat one or a cable? And how long? And attached where?

Thanks! Dale F

The original cables for a Super A were 19 1/2 for the cable to the starter switch and 4 3/4 for the ground. The ground was a round cable and it attached to one of the bolts that holds the battery box to the instrument panel. The hot cable also had a protective sleeve near the battery end, looked about like a hunk of heater hose.

I don't know how reversing polarity and going to 12 volts will alter the needed dimensions. Terminals on a 12-volt battery are not located the same as a group 1. You might want to check what was used on later 12-volt 140s. I don't have a reference on that version of the 140.

Thanks, Jim. Wasn't sure if there was that flat or round cable for the ground...I'll see what I can find on the 140. I think they have an active website like the Cub.
