Another Snow plow question

There seems to be a better chance of getting a front snowplow for a super A than an older A like my '46.
Anyone have a photo or dealer drawing/ad on a manual snow plow set for the earlier A's?
Or is it just to heavy to lift without hydraulics?
My cub has a plow but the A definitely has more grunt. Wouldn't hurt either to have two ready to go for next winter.
The next task would be trying to find a plow setup soup to nuts and that's not gonna be easy.
Mike.

IH did not make a snow plow for the A when it was in production. When the A-60 snow plow for the Super A came out, an attachment bundle was available so the A-60 could be used on the A. If you look at the parts catalog for the A-60, you can find the parts in that bundle. In the most general sense, they are similar to the master lift unit and front cross shaft for a manual lift Cub. Those parts will be hard to find today. Somebody could probably make work-like parts using other hand lift levers for an A.

Thanks Jim, I swear your like the Dalai Lama of tractor knowledge.

finding out that the early A's didn't have that option from the factory doesn't shock me.
I might have known as I've seen some plows installed on some A's but they all look make shift with crude brackets and mismatched parts. If do ever I find a factory retrofit setup for the C-60 I'll swoop on it.
You know I already have a good bit of blade mounting brackets for a standard cub. If I find a hand lift from a cub I may be able to modify it it and share the cubs blade.
Its a big maybe I know but I'll position the cub mounts under the A to see how possible it would be.
I'll have to go that extra mile though to make it look goog enough that the factory could have done it.

I have a IH-60 snow blade for my Farmall A. It came with the factory parts for lifting it works very nice. I have since put the snow blade on my super A.
The only difference in the plow is the lift arm from the blade to the manual lift on the tractor. Instead of having a two flat peices of steel on a rod rod to the super A hyd it has one flat bar like the Famall cub and it used like a 3/4 pin. It then goes to a different looking mount with a boomerang type mount like a cub on it. You would use the same lifting handle for any other type of Farmall A hardware. I may have some pictures of it. I curently use the set up to lift my mower it works much nicer then the Farmall Culivator lift. I have been offered up to $300 for my correct blade mounts. I may sell it if I ever put my hydraulics on my A or get a super A for cutting grass.
if you want pics let me know!

Chad yes that would be great. Very much appreciated.
That really does look like a tough bunch of parts to find.
Is it tough to lift the snowplow by hand?
Mike.

no it is not hard to lift it at all. It is spring loaded so it goes easy. I am using it to lift my woods L306 mower and it is a 6' deck and it lifts that ok also and that is much lighter then the snow blade. when I get home I will send a pic of the snow plow mounted on that tractor as it was when I bought it.
If I go with a super A instead of this regular A I might sell the hand lift! let me know if you would be interested.

Mike:

I had thought about this earlier and should have posted the commentary and link. The snow plow I originally had for my Cub was designed for an A and had been also mounted on a Pony. The Master Hand Lift package is used to lift the plow manually. Weight would really depend on how you build it. My own comments on stock are on the index page ... Snow Plow. The plow I had was built with rather stout walled pipe. The heaviest part was the blade. I have a feeling a used Fisher etc., cut down to a suitable width would be much lighter than the boiler plate one I had.

I sold this plow this past summer and it is now being used on another local Cub. Building your own may not have been the original idea, but it does work nicely and is a viable option especially if you are not all that concerned with originality.

Originality isn't a priority as It has the carryall mounted on the back from the PO. I wasn't sure if it would stay there but in the last few months it has proven its worth so it will stay. The welding is first rate and with a little TLC I can make it look like it was a factory option, not to fool anyone to cheat them but to make it a match to factory quality.
This also relaxes the redo so I don't have to be rigid with how its done.
The snowplow can follow suit.

wow did you know that you have the Industrial front end option? I would love to have that front end! That would help you out if you ever put the factory front blade on it.
Idustrial A has the triangle front tube plus the support from the front end to the torque tube! I want to find one for my Farmall 100 with my IH 1000 loader.

Yep its a Industrial A with the International badge on the front and yellow everywhere under the red paint.
It'll masquerade as a Farmall A when its redone though. I'm sure it'll give purists the fits but it'll make me happy.
That front axle is really beefy for sure. I've been snapping up deals as I find them on parts. I have a pair of bullet lamps for the front and I'm on the look out for a rear work lamp with the red tail lamp inside. No rush though.
One thing to get to first, there is an awful wobble that I have to attend to in the steering when I travel in forth gear.
This A goes way too fast in 4th at full throttle and is scary when it starts to shimmy. lots of tinkering to do for sure.
:eBay: alert!
Oh ya by the way, there is one on ebay right now. bidding is at $16 right now.

Go through the cub vine to see if someone can pick it up for you and hold it while you figure out shipping.
If I lived closer I'd have no problem doing that for you. Lots of cub guys in Pa., someone may hook you up.
Good luck, Mike.
