My next project-Done

My Super A needs some re-painting on the fuel tank, hood, and front end. The tank has original paint and whoever was in charge of fueling made sure 1 gal of gas on the tank before it went in the tank, hood is a repaint with orange peel, front end is original with some scratches down to bare metal. No rust and no dents so this should be a breeze. I wish I was a better painter, but I have to learn by doing.

I haven't painted anything yet Rudi. I bought that tractor that clean with most of the paint original. I'm pretty confident on this job though. No body work, just prepare it properly for a show quality paint job!

Tom:

You haven't painted it yet   Okay... then this is really gonna look good -- and you are right, the whole secret to a top notch job is preparation. Good prep = good top coat.

I've got some close-ups that show why I want to repaint the tank, hood, and front end. I couldn't see taking pictures of orange peel, so no hood pics.

I started painting this morning. I scuffed the backside and underside of the parts and primed them. No sense wasting time and supplies on something you wont see. Since it's fathers day and very humid today, I just stopped there, pulled down the big garage door and turned on the AC in the garage so I can putz around the rest of the day.

Well, I painted this morning. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. 1 run you have to be on your hands and knees to see, 1 spot of fish eye, a couple insect trails. I can fix all that, but this is how it looks for now.

Tom,
Rattle can or HVLP spray gun? What paint did you use. I sure wanna learn to do that.

Roy, I used an HVLP gun, just a cheap one from Wal-Mart. I used a paint called Town & country by Majic. I also used their reducer and hardner. I bought it from a Big R store, like Farm & Fleet, a farm store. It goes on pretty good. This is the third time I've used it and I like it. It seems a hair lighter shade than the rest of the tractor, but I haven't looked at it in the sun yet.

Once it dries good and gets about 50 coats of wax like the rest of my tractors, it wont matter. I accomplished my mission. get the scratches out of the front section, get rid of the orange peel from the hood, get the gas staind paint off the tank.

Thanks for the compliment.

My wife and I traveled to South Bend, In over the memorial day holiday and seen a nice AI along highway 24. I think it was for sale, but wasn't sure. It had a new woods belly mower under it, and looked like it had been painted a few years ago.
