Super A govener ?

I just got my super A running after 2 years of sitting, rebuilt the carb and now she starts right up. When I try to accelerate, the govener retracts the throttle and won't let me maintain a higher rpm also it won't get to full throttle. I adjusted the rods as per the manual but no change. When I manually accelerate the engine at the carb with the govener rod disconnected it works just fine. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds like there is dirt/crud somewhere in the linkage and it is binding a bit and reacts in reverse. Suggest spraying all joints, connections etc., (see diagram below) with a good penetratng oil over a couple days, work the governor a bit and see what happens.

Are you sure the output shaft on the governor is free and moves easily? That's usually what gets sticky and hard to move.

Lots of them wear where the lever goes into the governor housing. There is a guy over on the Yesterdays Tractors forum that rebulds them. He did one for me and it works much better.
