Hook it up positive ground and polarize the generator as described in many past threads.

Really nice tractor! I have a rear rim with a nice 9.5 on it...... turns out no way it will fit a Cub, it's for an A or 100. Discovered that when I was going to quickly swap out a set of tires to sandblast the rims (at night). And to prove out the 'mushroom theory' I found the tires on the Cub were loaded when I took the first one off  So I had to break them down before I had em blasted. Sure seemed like a 1/2 hour job when I started. If you want bigger tires, possibly someone will trade you 9.5's for yours?? Enjoy it!

8.3's were available, my Super A parts book says "standard" for the rims for 8.3 tires. I don't think many, especially Supers, were ordered this way. I would leave them on there.

I presently have good but mismatched 8.3s on my Lo-Boy cub. My first A has a good matched set of Safemark 9.5s. I have been on the look out for a deal on a new or newer used set of 11.2 or 12.4s for that A #1 (first one with the carryall). If I score a larger set for that tractor, A #2 can get the 9.5s and the Lo-Boy can get the new 8.3 set, Incidentally they are Firestone field&road so though small. they should wear extremely well. They probably cost a pretty penny too. Probably more than the $550 I spent for the whole tractor. It always seems to be hard to find any used set of tractor tires that arn't totally wiped out. They are probably the biggest expense to consider into the budget when picking up a used tractor. Order of priority, how does it run? What do the tires look like? All the other parts that you may have to chase down are smaller in comparison. A new set of rubber around here is about $800. For that price I should be able to drive it to work.

Ok, with it negative ground now, the starter cranks the motor in the proper direction. If I return it to positive ground will it still spin he motor the same way?

Sounds like a good plan. You are right about the expense of new tires--and to me, Firstone Field & Road's are the "Cadillac" of tractor tires. Al

The starter won't care which way the battery is.

You are right, tires are key! Best pair of tires I have were on the worst tractor I have owned.... so was a 1000 loader and york rake  . Just recovered the loaned PTO too, it's minty and exactly what I need at the moment. Sounds like you have a good plan. Nice project too.

Good plans are like opinions and we know what they are like...everybodys got one. Oh and for it being a nice project what I need most now is time,... but it will be fun even if its only an hour here, or an hour there.  The starter won't care which way the battery is.
Thanks Jim, 6 volt is new to me. Last year I completely rewired my cub soup to nuts and I couldn't be more satisfied with the way it came out. I'd have to say I had fun doing it too. I'm sure this will be too when I eventually get the time. Mike.

I found several bolts snapped off where impliments attach but there are two snapped off on top of the trans near the PTO lever. What bolted here?

Several different brackets could have been bolted there for cultivators, plows etc. In the case of your tractor, there has probably never been anything there. Corks...really! I find the idea of factory placed corks still there after 66 years to be pretty cool. If that's the case I will take every effort to protect them while restoring the tractors tin & paint. More than likely this tractor saw duty pulling and powering a mower for the highway department. Most of the tractors used here for farming are much bigger as there are few small scale farms.
