Rebuilding Hydraulic Pump

I have a couple spare hydraulic pumps laying in the shop and decided to rebuild them so I'd have them as needed. I gave Ken at C&G a call and he informed me that there isn't a "kit" like there is for a Cub. In fact, he said "there are only a couple o-rings in the pump, so we don't offer a rebuild kit. Clearly (after taking the pump apart) there are more than just 2 o-rings in the pump. I saw traces of the paper/fiber washers, shaft seal o-ring, pump o-rings, external o-rings for the manifold, the small "lock" for the bushings, and internal rubber gasket, etc. Are these parts available at all from CASE/IH, or anyone else?? He informed me there wasn't a "kit" and didn't offer or act like the individual parts were even available. What have you guys expierenced with this?

Let me know what you find out. I think I have the same problem. High oil level, thin oil that smells like gas, but can't be, and low hydraulic level. So far that's the only thing major possible problem I have found.

TM Tractor sells a rebuild kit for the pump.

This is for the Super A - 140 tractors; not a Cub. I didn't realize TM sold a kit for these tractors too.

Lol, it's ok. yeah, hopefully I'll find the parts I need. I'm thinking Ken didn't fully understand what I was talking about; but then ....maybe CASE/IH doesn't offer the parts anymore. I think I will call another dealer to see what I can find out.

Ken is correct, there is no "kit" for the pump. You should be able to purchase the individual parts you need from CaseIH.

You presumably asked directly about a kit, he answered directly that there was no kit... Did you follow up and ask if you could order parts individually? If not, he may not have thought to offer it as an alternative.

Really the only thing that wears on these pumps is the seal in the input shaft. On partstore.caseih.com they list the seals at around $10 each.

One thing, on partstore.caseih.com, they don't show most of what you're describing.

yeah, that site has it's flaws and there is "missing" stuff. No, Ken didn't offer it as an alternative and the context of the conversation was that as if I thought he would have, and he also sounded rushed, so I didn't say anything. I'm going to call again and see if I can get all of the individual parts, becuase all of my gaskets, o-rings, etc. are very hard and old.

* Thanks Matt

There's a very good partsman at the Case-IH dealer in Herscher, Il. that I've ordered many parts from. When I rebuilt the pump on my SA, I just gave him the part number off it and he sent me all the necessary parts for a rebuild. He actually takes the time to search different dealers stock to keep the customer happy. He also knows Cubs real well.

Now that I think about it, the pump internals might actually be in a different parts book, as they are third-party pumps. Cessna or Pesco, IIRC.

oh ok. That makes sense. If you know where I can find that info.....let me know.

My parts book TC 39C, starting at page 237 shows the 2 different pumps. Pesco and Thompson. It shows part numbers for individual parts and part numbers for kits, with lots of different kits and individual part numbers for different PN pumps and different brands of pumps. The pumps are rather simple and not a lot of internals. If your pump is off and you have a part number off it, it might be a good idea to call Stollers CIH parts dept in Herscher Il, and ask for Wayne. I haven't talked to Wayne for 6 months and heard he was going to retire, but I don't know when. 1-815-426-2119

Edit- TC-39B is in Rudi's manuals section under Super A-AV with the same page numbers as my manual.

Some great info. Thanks so much. I knew there were 2 different pumps made. Yeah, the internals are actually just like the Cub pump but bigger.
