Super A with 3p conversion and post hole digger

Postby Johnny Lindqvist » Mon Jul 29, 2013 10:25 am

I'm thinking about / need a post hole digger for the Super A. I guess I'm gonna buy a 3pt conversion kit. That seems pretty obvious but what about post hole diggers? Who has used or owns one? What brand will be best suited for the SA. Do you need adapters to make it hook up to the offset pto? Also I'm guessing I'll be needing to remove the right angle pto which reminds me I have no cover to go over the opening.

Thanks,

Johnny

There's a link to an ad in the vine for a post hole digger for a SA in NC I believe. Nice looking one. Of course it may be too far away. It's a little pricey too but by the time you buy a PHD and a three point conversion, you'll have more invested than what he's asking. Just a thought

The PTO on a Super A is a standard 6-spline 1-3/8" 540RPM. Any modern post hole digger's PTO coupler will slide right on. No adapters necessary.

The issue will be with clearance due to the high, offset PTO. Modern post hole diggers are designed for low center-drive PTOs.

I recently bought a Woods RM42 3pt hitch mower and installed it on my Super A with a crude homemade 3pt hitch setup of my own design. The angle of the PTO limits how short I can cut the grass, to about 4". Any lower and the shaft hits the frame of the mower. As it was I had to remove the top link bracing so the shaft could clear.
