Substitute Drawbar (1A-60)

Postby havoc1482 » Tue Mar 11, 2014 12:49 am

Anyone know the dimensions of the substitute drawbar for the 1A-60 Leveling and Grader Blade for the Super A? I've been searching and can't seem to find one. I think I'll better off fabbing one up myself. Its the only part keeping me from mid-mounting the plow, and after this crappy winter my gravel driveway is gonna need some smoothing.

The Parts Depot shows 2 (650308R3 support) available at the Wisconsin warehouse. They do not sell direct. You'll need to find a helpful dealer to verify the availability and price for you. Messicks is who I have worked with on numerous occasions. Ritchie Implement also shows 2 available. Never dealt with them before.

I am having zero luck with this. If you're telling me I need to go through a dealer then thats a no-go. Unlike the west, we don't have tractor dealerships around every corner up here in New England. Does anyone have an high-resolutions photos of the drawbar? I know it hangs straight down from the front mount. I just need to know how far down it hangs.

Here are some photos I took of my substitute drawbar for someone, but couldn't find the post. I WAS going to make one, but found one for sale at the last minute!! Good luck!

Yes, you would need to go thru a dealer. We don't have Case/IH dealers around every corner here in S.E. MI either. A phone call or two is all it takes. I've ordered old stock parts from dealers all over the country. CA, OH, PA, MA etc., etc. The idea is to have the part number(s) for what you are looking for, someone who is willing to help and from there it's really not that difficult to find some "difficult" to find parts. I've been amazed at what can still be found with a bit of digging.

If you choose to fab one yourself and give up on finding an original, I think I do have one. It is out at our farm somewhere and I can get some dimensions and pics for you. Not sure when I'll be there next but I can get back to you when/if I find it.

So, these are the basics: Its 29 inches wide, 5/8 inches thick, and 12 1/4 inches top-bottom? Those photos are great, thanks you very much. Do you have any pics of it mounted? If, not thats fine.

Would I be able to get away with 1/2 inch thickness?

Also, I see the tapered section on the side is obviously for the drawbar bolts, but what are the other on the side for? How does it keep from swinging back/up when the blade starts diggin?

Dale, I think you posted those dimensions for me. I made mine out of 3/4 inch steel because that's all I had. Mike, I don't have any close up pics, sorry.

Trust me when I say this, Woodbury is a very small dealership and from what I gather, rather limited. I've tried contacting with no avail, but I suppose stopping in person would be worth a try.

I do appreciate all the feedback. I have some professional buddies that can fab me up something for cheap as long as I have the dimensions. I still believe its the best way to go. Taking a trip down there would be a fun thing to do. I always like taking nice drives, which is why going to visit artc about the cylinder head was not an issue haha

Odds of finding a Cub or Super A part in stock at a small New England dealer are typically better than finding the same at a large Midwestern dealer.

Sometimes a small unknown dealer well off the beaten path can be much better to deal with than the OVER ADVERTISED ,---big fancy building type dealer who only wants to sell $250,000 combines!LOL!!! thanks sonny

PS I think my A has a cub db installed with different side mounts!---not pos but was looking at it the other day to see if I can put my cub blade under it ( I KNOW it's NOT direct fit ,---BUT thats what the welder and torch are for,---makes things fit for you! lol!)

No, there's a reason they used thick metal, stick with it.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I would go with 3/4" on a super A tractor because you are dealing with more hp and weight, traction, etc.---things will bend when you hit something that dont move and you spin out! thanks; sonny

I'm going down to Woodbury next week. In the mean time I was doing some thinking, you know the 'stare at the tractor for an hour or so trying to picture everything together' kind of thinking.

I'm curious, what if I simply rigged the plow to mount up with the drawbar reversed on the rear final bolts? I can see how they wouldn't line up because the drawbar reversed in the position put its about an inch/inch and a half forward of where the sub. drawbar would hang from, but I can remedy that easily. I guess my question is, if I managed to mount it like that, would it do harm say if I hit a rock or something stiff with the plow? I really only plan in leveling my driveway which is all gravel.

I tried that-it doesn't work. The drawbar puts the plow way too much forward.
