140 hi crop

Postby jdeere86 » Thu Dec 25, 2014 8:18 pm

sorry if this is an old question - wondering what the height difference is between a 140 and a 140 hi crop ? how much advantage does a hi crop have over a 140 ?

Height to steering wheel difference is 6 inches. They are the same tractor, the HC is just better for cultivating plants that are taller that would otherwise rub against the bottom of the regular 140 and damage them.

A highcrop is neat, but I'd go with a regular 140 because there are more attachments readily available. A snowplow is goo thing to have.

Really the advantage for general-purpose use goes to the regular 140. A hi-crop 140 is a one-trick pony. It's good at cultivating tall crops, and nothing else.

The gearing in the hi-crop is the same as the 140, but the tires are much taller. Overall the hi-crop is somewhere between 30% and 50% faster in all gears. Anything that requires the engine to be revved up would cause the tractor to be moving much too fast to be practical.

Today, the hi-crop is a collector's item, or if you really have a need to cultivate tall crops.

Nonsense. Unless you need to go REAL slow, or you need something low to the ground, you can do chores with a AV--140 hi-crop about as easy as a standard version. There were lots of AVs and Super AVs around my neck of the woods back in the day, and they were here mostly because the farmer needed a tractor and that was all that was available. They did all sorts of chores. One neighbor had everything with his Super AV from an A-295 plow, pull type tandem disk, rear mount sickle mower, even a cordwood saw. It was his only tractor until he quit farming.

The only thing that would concern me on a hi-clear would be a greater danger of turning over if the wheel tread is set narrow.
