Farmall 140 Engine Rebuild Torque Spec's

Postby TomO » Sun Feb 01, 2015 6:29 am

Hi

I am rebuilding a engine from a McCormick International Farmall 140 Hi Clear (Petrol Engine). I am chasing any information regarding bolt torque specifications for mains, big end, head bolts and tightening sequence, valve clearance, crank shaft end float etc. Any information would be appreciated

Engine No - 87357A
Bore Size - 3 1/8"

Kind regards
Tom

I know the headbolts and manifold bolts are 80 and 20 lbs respectively. As for a pattern, on the head, start in the middle and work your way out in a circle/spiral pattern. For my Super A I did 20lb, 40lbs, 60lbs, finally 80lbs on the wrench following the pattern each time. Dont forget to retorque the bolts after you get the engine to operating temp.

Valve gap is .014 inches Hot. So set it once, then after it warms up recheck it.

Tom,
The main bearing caps should be torqued to 75-80 ft-lbs, and the rod caps 43-49 ft-lbs according to my Blue Ribbon manual.
