exhaust manifold replacement

Postby Komatsuna » Thu Feb 19, 2015 7:35 am

I need to replace the exhaust manifold on my super a because it has a hole in it. Seems pretty simple, a few bolts, a few gaskets.

Any thing that I should keep in mind when I am doing it?

Thank you

A rust hole or one of the small round holes near the center that belong there?

Use antisieze on the nuts. The step most people skip is readjusting the throttle linkage from the governor to the carburetor when reinstalling.

I am not positive, but I think Jim is right...if the manifold is like the Cub, it has a small drain hole in the bottom near the center...usually rusted up and blocked, and sometimes PO has put a screw in thinking it was a rust hole and wanted an easy fix!

When I took mine off, one of the studs came out instead of the nut coming off. Just cleaned everything up, put the stud in with loctite, then put the nuts on with antisieze.

be real careful on the nut removal so as to not twist the stud off! might have to resort to heat on them! thanks; sonny

no its a hole, someone even tried to build it back up by welding. the whole thing is pretty rusted and pitted.

yeah I have been spraying pb on it for the past few days before I even try to work those bolts.
