My First Super A

Postby LeoM » Sat Apr 11, 2015 3:00 pm

I bought a 1948 Super A this week, serial # 265795. The casting code on the torque tube is 11-2-R. If my numbers are right this tractor was built very close to the day I was born,12-07-1948. It is in good condition for a 66 year old machine. The engine starts easily and is smooth with no smoke or apparent leaks. The transmission is a little loud but operates in all gears without any obvious problems. The forward TC lift operates but the rear doesn't. The rod between the operating lever and the TC housing is there but disconnected. It has a finish mower that is bound up tight. PTO operates normally. No hood or grill and a real "Rube Goldberg" exhaust. It has a 5 gal plastic lawn mower gas tank that looks like hell but is mounted substantially. The gas tank was removed due to rust internally but that will be easy to fix. It is not dented or beat up. Magneto was removed and a 6 V battery ignition was installed. I am thinking about having the magneto rebuilt at some time in the future.
This is my 4th. tractor since December and it is time to stop buying and seriously get to restoring. All 4 need work.

Good to see you yesterday.

Sounds like you need to start building a barn.
