140 planter drive seal

Postby Gator809 » Wed May 06, 2015 2:21 pm

If you have a 2 piece, the seal is easy to find for the seal plate that is held in with 4 bolts. If you have a 1 piece assembly, the correct seal is not easy to find. It's part number is 384807r91. As far as I can tell, it is only carried by CaseIH and a few farmall parts stores, and is hideously overpriced, around $80! It also has a unusual size combination. My local motion industries, a bearing house couldn't match a seal up to it.

After a long search, I found a seal that works. SKF seal 18136 works, but it has to be said that is is slightly undersized for the housing bore. I used a thin bead of silicone and it sealed up perfectly. The seal is normally a pinion seal for a ford 8.8 axle, so the planter drive is easy duty.
