Tracked Farmall A

Postby KilldeerBeach » Mon Aug 22, 2005 11:47 pm

Hi everyone,

Here is our 1946 Farmall A. It came with the campground we bought last year. It looks like it was a homemade conversion but it works very well. We use it for launching boats and moving trailers.

Kinda neat looking International you got there. Strange looking to me as I have never seen anything quite like it. Looks like it would come in real handy on sandy soil. :P

it gets good traction on the sand on the bottom of the lake. To launch a boat in our lake, we need to travel over 100 feet of shallow muddy lakebottom. We run it right up to just underneath the fan belt.

we steer with the brakes. it doesn't steer well in reverse but in forward you can spin right around in a circle on the same spot.

I love seeing unusual setups like that. As I assume you have figured out, you will need to regualarly inspect and repack the fornt wheel beairngs (use water resistant grease) as well as keep an eye on oil in final drives and transmission for water contaminateion. Out of curiosity, what part of the country are you located in?
If you are not part of the solution,

Yeah it requires constant maintenance but it does the job. We're located in Northern Alberta, Canada.

Very unusual and unique. 8)

Scott, I would think one would steer it using the brakes.
