Re: 130 Starter will spin but not engage.
If it were the wrong drive on the starter the gear would not spin out. If it were completely the wrong starter (same starter but opposite rotation it would have spun the engine backwards.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Supplier (NAPA) says $5 rebate for core.
I will keep the core. The spring alone is worth $29.

Here is a pic of the end of the old starter drive stopper after 15 starts.
Here is a pic of the end new starter drive stopper. No starts.
I installed everything back and used a #2 wire instead of #1/0. It started to crank slowly and then stopped. Thought the battery was dead, nope. The armature shaft is binding when I tighten up the 2 long bolts holding the starter together. Loosen them up slightly and she spins. Not sure what has changed (other than the drive assembly). It was spinning freely with the original drive. There are 2 spacer washers at the pinion gear end, ( the parts book shows 3 , but there were only 2 ) and 1 spacer washer at the back end. The shaft is not any longer. I will have to put the old drive back in and see what the difference is. Thought I was going to go for a spin while the sun was out ....NOT!

Different drive than original, one or both of the spacers may need to be removed.

Well there's your problem!
Yeah, bet if you drop 1 washer out it'll be fine. I've never seen one with more than one washer on the nose end.

Matt, yes those threads are pretty beat up.
Removed the thicker of the 2 nose spacers and that did it.
Sounds way better engaging now too!
