Touch Control rebuild source?

Postby havoc1482 » Tue May 17, 2016 3:49 pm

Been wanting to do this for a while, my TC can be jerky sometimes and after rebuilding two Cub TC units and seeing the amazing results coupled by the fact I now have experience with them makes me want to really get moving on my TC unit instead of ignoring it. As far as I know a Super A TC unit is similar to rebuilding a Cubs, but only there are more o-rings and pistons.

Anyone recommend a source? Steiner? Yesterdays Tractor?

AFAIK there is no kit for the dual-ram Touch Controls like there is for the Cub TC.

However, Ken Updike of Johnson Tractor knows all the parts you'd need to rebuild one off the top of his head, and can put a "kit" together for you. Ken is a fairly well-known author and expert in the IH world.

It's been a while, but I think I got my kit from my local IH dealer (pretty expensive, though). I added the little plastic valves, but almost didn't use them, since the old ones were made of metal, and I could see no evidence of a problem with them.

Pic of all the parts removed and arranged in order.

Plastic check valves. These were $38 ea. need 4. but mine looked good so they went back in.

Clean block.

Take lots of photos when you are dismantling, it sure helps the memory.
