super A will not go in first gear

working on a Farm all Super A all is going good but made the first trip around the yard today and a little noise in gear box but would not go into first gear the rest ok even reverse & 2,3,4 good no grinding or any thing just would not go going to pull top off tranny and see any ideas . :thanx: :thanx: :tractor:
just for thought I bought the tractor for the block for my AV and just was fooling with it to see if it would run ,runs great may look for another block for the AV.I have to get back on the cub lowboy and complete it have four I am working on at one time and not getting much done :thanx:

Finally got around to pulling top off trans and found the problem it was the shifter not tyranny I guess it stuck setting up . But found another problem the main shaft in the tranny is very lose it would move up and down 1/8 in or more I not sure it should do this I think the bearings are bad what do you think :help: :help: :surrender:

sounds like it does have bad bearings. Shifters are an easy fix.

If the shaft is worn you can take it to a machine shop and have them weld it and turn it back to size, take a new bearing with you so they know what size to make it.
