140 AXLE PIVOT (INDUSTRIAL)

Postby cub.bub » Tue Jul 12, 2016 9:20 am

I have an annoying knock (noise) in the front end of the 140 Industrial, I raised her up and found that the pivot bushings seem to be alright( no up/down/sideways movement but rather a front to back.
This situation is much like my F Cub had that a "thrust bushing" or spacer took care of.
Looking at my parts manual breakdown shows only the bushings part #60386 DR but no mention of a spacer, I was wondering if the bushings have a lip on them that would account for the maybe 3/32" play? my parts book picture is not that detailed, or my eyes are not that good?
Has anyone else had to deal with this? I'm hoping I can just remove and install a thrust spacer....the bushings I found on line are like $60.00 ea! that's my whole months allowance!
Thanks, Bruce.

You can get a bag of machine bushings (think precision washers) at Tractor Supply for a couple bucks. I'd slide a few of them in there to take up the difference, myself.

What's the diameter of the pivot shaft? Maybe I've got something that will fit....

Matt, I was thinking the same thing on the washers. After looking in the parts book and learning there wasn't any originally, it (the knock) isn't that bad, I notice it most while backing out of the barn when I'm going over my concrete threshold, kind of like a speed bump, the gap is probably a heavy 1/8".
Rick, at this point all I know is the shaft is LARGE, like 1 1/2". I'm on vacation next week and plan on getting into it.....and the forever growing "Honey do list"!
If I have troubles I'll know who to call.
Thanks to you both.
Bruce.

Well my vacation time did not allow work on the 140, I had some time this weekend and got deep into it, after looking at my parts book I thought you would be able to remove the front axle by removing the 2 bolts that mount to the torque tube and turn the support away from the tractor and drop the front axle. No luck, has anyone else removed the front axle on the 140 industrial? do you have to remove the whole front bolster?
I don't want to force too much with a pry bar against the block, and would prefer to remove in sections as I would guess the front end is quite heavy.
Thanks, Bruce. :help:

Can you find one of those split type washers that you slide over the shaft then squeeze down so it cannot slide off?
Might save a lot of dis-assembly?

Greg, good idea, I'll double check the diameter and check it out.
Thanks, Bruce.
